A 50-year-old family business downtown is coming to a close.
Emilís Deli, located in the basement of the U.S. Bank building on Third Street SE, first opened in 1964.
The floods of 2008 washed away everything the deli once had, but customers helped with the reopening a year later by replacing lost Hawkeye decorations.
Now with owner Dave Allick retiring at the end of June 2015, the restaurant will permanently close.
Allick says the end is bittersweet.
ďItís going to be tough to leave, just because itís kind of my life. I spend more time on my weekends getting ready for the next week than I do spending it with my family,Ē he said.
Allick says heís thankful for the deliís loyal customers and the memories. His family has also shown its dedication to his job.
ďThe boys have grown up here in the deli, and itís been a part of their lives,Ē he said.
He plans to help his sons continue the restaurant business at their other locations after retiring.
ďI wonít be a couch potato,Ē he said.
The deliís last day is June 27.
